Wasps! ugh... I hate em. But in the early spring and again in the early fall, they seem to be out looking for places to nest around our house. So for us, it is pretty much essential that I bug-proof the vents in and around my RV. We get other kinds of flying insects too, but not anything comparable to wasps. And when you are at the campground, you are bound to have all kinds of flying insects around.
I was able to find that Camco sells flying insect screens for the more popular vents on a RV; refrigerator, water heater, furnace, and so on... so I bought a set of screens and installed them on these appliances.
Unfortunately, I could not find a vent cover for the range hood vent, so I ended up making my own. I created a block of wood approximately the same dimension as the vent opening - minus about 1/16" inch. I then made a matching slot in a second block of wood just slightly larger so the first block of wood fit inside of the second block. To make the screen, I took a piece of aluminum screen material and using the two blocks of wood as a die, I put the screen in between them and hammered the "plug" into the "die". Actually, the result was quite impressive.
The fit of the screen into the vent was perfect. I "glued" the screen in place with a small amount of silicone. Using silicone means I can always remove the screen as silicone is only a semi-permanent bond.
We now have a wasp-free RV... well, at least as much as we can make it. Camco makes sceens for most of the popular appliances, so the one that is right for you depends on what you have. The next time we go camping, we won't have to worry about mud daubers clogging up our appliances.
