I just don't know why I have not bought one of these label makers already. They are so useful. My needs for a label maker is something that can primarily do heat-shrink wrap for wire and cable, and a few other label tasks. The wire-wrap requirement means the labelmaker must be an industrial type. I found two inexpensive (meaning under $100) labelmakers that would fit my needs; the Dymo Rhino 4200, and the Brady BMP21. Of the two, the Brady is well known by electricians and contractors... the Dymo, not quite so much.

Given both are under $100, it is not a bank breaker regardless of which one I went with. However, there is a significant difference in costs for the labels themselves - especially the heat shrink labels. For the Brady, a 1/2" heat shrink label is around $6 per ft., while the Dymo is around $4. And there are generic labels available for the Dymo (made by other manufacturers) that gets the cost down to $1.25 per ft.

Since you will ultimately spend more money on labels than the printer, the Dymo became the labeler of choice, given the low cost of the heat-shrink. One concern was how well the 3rd party generic labels were. I am glad to say that they worked fine in the short time I used the labeler.

I have to state that I only used the 3rd party labels sold by Aiomark (of course plus the few Dymo brand labels I bought). They were acceptable, but I cannot state whether other brands are any good.
