Yankee Springs (Gun Lake) State Park.
Camping at Gun Lake.
Yankee Springs State Park is a rather large park, with the campground at Gun Lake. The park is located in South Central Lower Michigan, with the closest town being Hastings, Mi. The easiest path to get there is to go east from Exit 61 on US-131.
The park is one of the less expensive parks in the Michigan State Park system - however, even the most expensive parks are not more than $30 per night.
Like most Michigan State Parks, the sites are heavily used and well worn. The sites are fairly small for Michigan State Park standards, and you will have difficulty with any RV more than about 35ft long. But it is a nice, well shaded park.
The park has it's own camper's beach and a nice boat launch. It is one of the more boat friendly parks. Gun Lake itself is rather shallow, so it warms up quickly in the early season, making it a favorite of many campers.
There is a rather large day use area within the park just south of the campground, and includes a beach and store. However, as the campground has it's own beach, many campers just use it.
This is a boating-friendly campground and Gun Lake is an excellent lake for both fishing and water sports.
One nice amenity is that the camp store will deliver wood or ice to your campsite if you call them. It seems most State Parks in Michigan have different methods of providing firewood, and this is one of the nicest.
Other areas of the park you may wish to visit include the "Devil's Soupbowl" and the "Chief Noonday" area.
