Interlochen is Michigan's first State Park with a campground. And for good reason. It is located in a beautiful area, adjacent to Duck Lake. Also, there is a primitive campsite on the other side of the highway on Green Lake. Between the two, there are over 500 sites.

Also adjacent to the State Park is the Interlochen Fine Arts Camp, which is the major draw here. In the summer time, a few headliner bands perform at the Fine Arts Camp, including the Moody Blues, Steely Dan, Lynrd Skynrd, as well as others. When we visited Interlochen, we took in a Steely Dan concert. The total walk from our RV to our seats in the concert hall was around 1/4 mile, which was shorter than some of the on-site parking spots.

Unfortunately, the state park is not near any major interstate highways, so the best way to get there is to take exit 256 from I-75 (Grayling) and travel West on M-72 to Traverse City, then South on M-37, then West on M-31 until you get to the town of Interlochen.

There are other ways to get there to be sure, but no direct routes.

Interlochen itself is about 15 miles south of Traverse City, Mi.

The campground is mostly wooded, with a North and South unit of the main park. The North unit is fairly level while the South unit does have a lot of non-level sites. If you are planning on attending a concert at Interlochen and walking to the concert hall, get one of the North unit sites.
