Camping at the Markin Glen Campground - Kalamazoo County, Mi.
The Markin Glen Park and campground is located adjacent to the Kalamazoo River, and was the former Estate of Morris Markin, president of the Checker Motors Manufacturing Company; the builder of the famous Checker Cabs. Morris deeded the property to Kalamazoo County to create a park that people could enjoy.
The campground is small, with only 38 modern asphalt paved campsites with full hookups, so early reservations are a must. The campground itself is only a few miles north of Kalamazoo, so grocery, gas, and convenience stores are quite close. Unfortunately, railroad tracks are adjacent to the property, so you may experience some noise once or twice a day. Nearby attractions include the Kalamazoo Air Zoo - a nice Aircraft Museum.
There is a swimming, tennis courts, pavilions, and walking/biking areas in the park, but they are not exclusive to the campground, so you will be sharing those facilities with day visitors to the park.
