Mitchell State Park is located on an isthmus between Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell, which is a prime area. The campground is on Lake Cadillac, while the day use park and beach is on Lake Mitchell. Oddly enough, Highway M-115 goes through the center of the park, and traffic can be congested. There is also a unique channel between the two lakes for boat traffic, and you can also walk under the M-115 highway bridge to get from the campground to the day park.

The William Mitchell State Park is located in Central Lower Michigan, near Cadillac, Mi. Getting to the park is easy if you take US-131 to M-115. It is on the West side of Lake Cadillac (the town of Cadillac itself is on the East side of the lake.

There is a farm market, pizzeria, Burger King, McDonalds, and a gas station adjacent to the park, but the major stores and grocery stores are located in Cadillac, so if you don't want to take a trip into town, visit Cadillac on your way to the park.

The park is boating friendly as are most of Michigan's State Parks. There is also a nature center adjacent to the campground with a bow and arrow range, and a vast amount of information about the animals and history in the area. It is well worth the short walk from the campground to the center.
