The Mackinaw City - Mackinaw Island area is one of the prime vacation destinations in Michigan in the summer time. It is a must-see if you are visiting Michigan. The town itself is not huge by any means, and definately a tourist area. However, a trip to Mackinac Island is a must, as well as a drive over the Mackinac Bridge. If you are looking for early American history - this is the place to be; with several forts in the area, and the site of several battles with both Indian and British troops during our country's early history.
Located 2 1/2 miles south of Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground is consistantly voted as one of the best private campgrounds in Michigan. The campground has a beach on Lake Huron, as well as a breath-taking view of the Mackinac Bridge (also visible from some campsites). The campground is easy to get to by exiting I-75 at Mackinaw City, then driving south on US-23.
The campground has a wide variety of sites ranging in price from $50 (for bridge view) to around $25 per night for sites away from the beach. Reservations are recommended for the choice sites, but with around 1,000 sites, you will always find something available. You will want a bicycle here or plan on walking as the park is so huge that you could be a half-mile from the camp store and pool area, especially if you are in one of the "big-rig" friendly sites on the West side of the campground. If you want to take the Star Line to Mackinac Island (you can buy discounted tickets when you check into the park), they offer a free shuttle to get to the ferry dock. The shuttle will even take your bicycles to the dock for you. While most sites are fairly large, the Bridge View sites are a bit small although adequate. Typically a row of trees or hedges separate one site from the next for a bit of privacy.

There is a well stocked camp store - as far as camp stores go. Other things you may wish to see (depending on your transportation) is the Mackinaw Mill Creek facility one mile south of the campground, or take a trip into Mackinaw City itself. There is a bicycle trail across the highway from the campground, so if you are inclined, you can bike to either location. As of late, Mackinaw City has become "bicycle friendly" with plenty of bike parking downtown, and even a bike pavilion that has restroom facilities and a covered area for lunch, etc.
And if you have kids, make sure they participate in the nightly ride on the Fire Truck. WiFi is included in the price of the campsite.
