The Soo Locks Campground is a fairly small campground on the St. Mary's River, on the East side of Sault Ste Marie. Ships headed for the Soo Locks (about a mile to the West) pass here, so this is an ideal spot to do some ship watching - especially if you can get a river side campsite. The campground can be a challenge to get to from I-75, but follow the signs as there are steep hills and low bridges in the area that should be avoided by RV'ers. I highly recommend taking I-75 exit 392 and following the signs to the campground area.
The shower and bath facilities are nice for such a small campground. As well, there is a small area having a pool table and coffee. And the owners are very personable, and will tell you everything about the local area; where to go, what to see, and what to avoid.
Riverside Site.
The must-see for this area is the Soo Locks. You can either drive to the locks itself to the West (or walk - but it is over a mile), or walk a couple of blocks to the East and take the Soo Locks Boat Tour - which goes through the locks.
Amenities are somewhat lacking, without a pool or much of a camp store. Still, the facility is not expensive (around $32 per night), and there is a nice clean shower facility. WiFi is included in the price of the campsite. Fishing for Pike and other species is good, and you are liable to catch something right from the shore line. If you have a small boat, there is a boat launch available.
Soo Locks Campground Review.
The campground itself does not have a website. You must call (906) 632-3191 for reservations. Websites:
